I'm a fan of Korean food so when the internet site Deal Grocer offered a deal for a new establishment at Shangri-La Plaza, I immediately availed. I've seen their location when I dined at their neighbor Zarzuela a few weeks ago so timing of the deal was perfect.
Woo Galbi Korean House is located on Level 6 of Shangri-La EDSA's East Wing.
If you wanted some peace and quiet, this level of the mall would be ideal since foot traffic was almost nil.
Nice interiors.
I like the sliding panels as walls.
Ah, the ever welcome appetizers. In Woo Galbi, though, these could only be refilled once.
Haemul Pa Jeon - " scallion pancake with seafood". I found this a bit oily.
Tteokgalbi Sliders - " 3 hefty mini burgers! beef meatballs with pickled veggies, our own ssam sauce and pepperoncinis ".
I thought I cancelled this dish but apparently not. These are quite tasty.
Yukhwe - "seasoned beef tenderloin tartare with pear and cucumbers".
I can't recall the last time I had tartare so I was looking forward to this raw dish.
The flavors are quite nice and didn't taste slimy or strange at all.
Our soup was Dwenjang Jjigae - " Korean miso paste stew with seafoods and tofu".
I like the mild flavor. What I didn't like was that when we bagged the soup, it wasn't done properly and spilled inside the paper bag. One of the mall guards had soup with his meal that day.
When eating in a Korean restaurant, some kind of cooking must be done on the table.
We had the Bulgogi - "beef belly". I really want one of these cooking gadgets.
Lovely, sliced veggies soaked in broth surrounding beef pieces.
The friendly waitress doing the initial cooking.
The aroma from the cooking meat was divine.
Slicing the beef.
Voila, our bulgogi.
This was a bowl of deliciousness.
Joining me for this meal was my couchsurfer guest, Stuart from Scotland. When he told me he was from Aberdeen, I immediately thought of Aberdeen Court in Makati Avenue. This was lame word association.
We also tried a Bibimbap Rice Bowl. From the options we got the hot stone bibimbap called Dis - "traditional mixed rice with assorted veggies and a topping and served in a sizzling stone bowl". We got red rice, gochujang or Korean chili as sauce and salmon as topping.
Stuart doing the mixing of the bibimbap.
I also want one of these serving contraptions.
We weren't disappointed at all with the tastiness of this dish. Come to think of it, I liked all of them with the exception of the Haemul Pa Jeon or scallion pancake which I don't care much for.
While walking around East Wing, I noticed that there were still a lot of boarded up spaces. Shoppers were also far and wide from each other. I wondered if the mall was affected by another newly opened mall, SM Aura at The Fort. I should check out that other mall soon.
Cost Of Meal : I purchased the vouchers from www.dealgrocer.com for 1000.00 and was good for 2000.00 worth of dishes; total bill was 2016.30 so we added only 16.30 to the final bill
