Thor: Ragnarok

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Idris Elba & Anthony Hopkins
Directed by: Taika Waititi
Rating: ★★★★

After the dreary and lifeless Thor: The Dark World I didn’t have much hope for this sequel. However, after seeing that the Hulk would be one of the main characters, I was persuaded to part with my cash to see the latest instalment in the Marvel cinematic universe- and I’m glad that I did.

The new Avengers...?

Thor: Ragnarokis a funny, campy and action-packed adventure that does not take itself too seriously and is therefore a very enjoyable sci-fi spectacular.

It time to battle!

Taking place after the Avengers sequel and Captain America’s uneven third outing, Thor (Hemsworth) is transported to a distant planet and must escape in order to save his home world from Hela (Blanchett), a goddess of death.

Don't mess with Hela!

Once again joined by his half-brother Loki (Hiddleston), Thor teams up with the Hulk (Ruffalo) and a Valkyrie (Thompson) in order to stop Hela from destroying his home planet and the entire galaxy.

The humour breathes some live into the Thor franchise...

With some excellent set pieces, and some great supporting characters, Thor: Ragnarok is energetic and punchy, much like Spider-Man: Homecoming, and breathes some life into the tired franchise.

Valkyrie is a great character...

With the departure of Natalie Hershlag Portman, Hela and the unnamed Valkyrie are great new female characters that are not only dynamic and different, they are also extremely strong and give great performances.

Add captionWho can you trust?
There are also some cameos from some of cinema's most reviled actors- such as shifty Benedict Cumberbatch and the talentless Idris Elba- but luckily the core main cast is very strong and creates a mini Avengers movie of their own that you could watch again and again.

Oh no- not Idris!

Including a cool gladiator fight between Thor and the Hulk, and an epic final battle on Asgard, the film’s energy never drops, and with an injection of much needed campy humour, the film is both an exciting and funny bridge between Marvel movies.

What will happen to Thor in the next Avengers movie?

Thor: Ragnarok worthy watch. Being a more traditional blockbuster, it provides a bang for your buck and does not disappoint.
